The Justice Department Continues Its White Glove Treatment of Big Corporate Criminals by Settling With Them Tenet

Tenet Healthcare Corp., owner of four Miami-Dade hospitals, agreed to pay $5 million in December to settle a Whistleblower lawsuit alleging that the company paid illegal kickbacks to doctors by allowing them to lease offices at below-market rates in return for patient referrals. Even though this conduct is a clear violation of federal and state laws, Tenet has been permitted to avoid prosecution by writing a check.
