The sale of falsely labeled food, drugs, or cosmetics is a serious federal crime. Barry Steinlight, owner and president of Raw Deal Inc., was sentenced to 40 months of imprisonment for the sale of mislabeled ingredients. By pleading guilty, Steinlight admitted that from 2009 through 2013, he instructed Raw Deal employees to add “fillers,” to the dietary ingredients and supplements sold to customers without labeling the products as such. In addition, vice president of Raw Deal Catherine Palmer, pleaded guilty to a one count information charging her with obstructing an agency investigation, a charge that carries a statutory maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
