In a case that has recently received much media attention, Attorney Paul D. Petruzzi is representing the manager of Orchids of Asia Day Spa, Lei Wang, who is facing over 24 prostitution-related charges. Records allege that the client solicited and enticed others to participate in sex acts in exchange for money. After being held in jail for nearly a month, Wang was released on a $75,000 bail, which had been lowered from the original amount of $256,000. Petruzzi argued that even the reduced bail was an exorbitant amount. He said individuals in similar cases are typically held on $7,500, and he believes his client is being treated differently because one of the men charged is a high-profile public figure and people are making false assumptions about the case.
The investigation into the Jupiter-based day spa began in October of 2018 after police found online postings claiming employees performed sexual acts on customers for pay. Law enforcement officials started looking into possible human trafficking and prostitution offenses at the Jupiter spa, as well as others in the area. When investigators examined Orchids’ records and grounds, they found bodily fluids on napkins in trash cans, evidence of employees living on the premises, and videos of as many as 20 men a day visiting the spa. When approached by investigators, the men claimed they had received sexual favors in exchange for money.
Day Spa Customers Charged for Solicitation of Prostitution
Twenty-five men who visited the spa are facing solicitation of prostitution charges. One of the defendants is seeking to have surveillance video from the day spa thrown out. Another of the defendants accepted a plea bargain to have the misdemeanor charges dropped. As a condition of his deal, he must complete community service and a prostitution education course.
